SOAR Together Recognizes May as Mental Health Awareness Month with Events

As Mental Health Awareness Month begins, SOAR Together, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing levels of loneliness and social isolation in Fairfield County through unique programs and community collaborations, announces a series of events aimed at raising awareness while promoting mental wellness and positive social connections.

"SOAR’s mission is to help foster supportive communities where mental health is openly discussed and individuals feel empowered to seek help without stigma," says Ginger Smith, MSW and Founder of SOAR Together. "May is an opportunity for us to increase our outreach and engage in deeper collaborations across Fairfield County providing innovative ways for residents to connect socially."

SOAR Together invites residents across Fairfield County to join our May events, beginning with the 3rd Annual NorWALK for Mental Health: Walk + Wellness Fair this Saturday, May 4th from 9am-12pm at the Norwalk Green. It's a wonderful opportunity to spend time connecting with others while engaging in fun activities including laughing yoga and ceramics, gaining awareness through inspiring speakers, learning about local resources, and walking together for a cause on a beautiful spring morning. The 8 Dimensions of Wellness will be represented, with SOAR representing social, emotional, and environmental through the gifting of our “Flower Power” arrangements created with our rescued, refreshed flowers.

Sunday, May 12th at 10am at Sherwood Island marks the launch of SOAR Strolls for the 2024 season, a weekly social gathering in a scenic, uplifting setting. It’s a time for those from towns across Fairfield County (and beyond) to enjoy connecting with others who enjoy the sights and sounds of an ocean backdrop. Mostly social time with a gentle stroll, Sundays at Sherwood are a wonderful time to bond, laugh, refresh, and regroup

for the week ahead.

SOAR Together extends an invitation to all community members to join us on Saturday, May 25th from 1-2:30pm at Triangle Community Center for our monthly Flower Power program. We gather the fourth Saturday of each month to immerse in flowers, color, and social connection while creating arrangements to uplift and inspire others. "Knowing each of our needs for social connection are unique based on life experiences and personal interests, SOAR Together aims to provide a spectrum of opportunities for people to connect in different and meaningful ways, from connecting over a shared passion for flowers and creativity to conversing over a meal to walking alongside a new acquaintance with a shared passion for the healing nature of the ocean, our fundamental goal is to create positive, safe, comfortable spaces for people to connect and leave with a more full heart and soul than when they arrived," adds Ginger.
