Celebrate Elvis Presley's Birthday at The Palace Danbury

Happy Birthday Elvis Presley!
January 8th marks what would have been Elvis Presley’s 80th birthday. Considered to be one of the greatest singers of the 20th century, the “King of Rock and Roll” left the building far too early in 1977 at the young age of 42.
On Sunday, January 18, renowned folk-rock artist Rex Fowler will celebrate Elvis Presley’s birthday with a special screening of the film "200 CADILLACS” at Danbury’s Palace Theatre. This 60-minute documentary conceived and co-produced by Fowler, showcases the often forgotten generosity of Presley and his habit of giving away cars to friends--and sometimes complete strangers
Elvis Presley’s gift of choice was a shiny new Cadillac car. Through candid and personal interviews with many of the recipients of these automobiles and other extraordinary gifts, the film paints a touching and funny portrait of a man who continues to be cherished by millions. The film includes vintage video clips and over 200 photographs of Elvis during different periods of his life, many never before seen from private collections.
A highlight of 200 Cadillacs is its strong, rock and roll, bluesy soundtrack. The film features five original songs written especially for the documentary by Rex Fowler. Paul Burlison, Mavis Staples, and Levon Helm (of the classic group `The Band') are represented with their excellent bluesy take on “Hound Dog.” Jon Pousette-Dart grabs a perfect slice of Elvis history in the song “Running With Elvis” — “Running with the King at the height of his rein, was like trying to hold on to a runaway train.”
200 Cadillacs will be screened at The Palace Danbury on Sunday, January 18, at 2:00 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and include complementary refreshments prior to the film as well as a Q&A and live performance by producer Rex Fowler following the screening. Tickets may be purchased online at www.thepalacedanbury.com, by phone at 203 794-9944, or at the box office starting one hour before showtime.
