Bethel joins global celebration for Make Music Day on June 21

Bethel, CT – On Saturday, June 21, Bethel will join 16 other Connecticut cities and regions – and over 150 communities across the U.S. – in celebrating Make Music Day, the world’s largest annual music event held on the summer solstice.

This free, daylong, community-wide celebration of music features performances by musicians of all ages, genres, and skill levels. From sidewalks to storefronts, libraries to restaurants, music will fill the air in Bethel as part of a worldwide movement to promote the power of music to bring people together.

Now in its second year, Make Music Bethel will showcase more than a dozen performances throughout the day along Greenwood Avenue, including at local favorites such as:

  • Bethel Public Library
  • Municipal Center Gazebo
  • P.T. Barnum Square
  • Bethel Music Center
  • Bethel Photoworks
  • Greenwood Features
  • And numerous local restaurants

Make Music Bethel is proudly sponsored and organized by Bethel Arts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the cultural vitality of the community through support and promotion of the arts. Their efforts ensure that this celebration is accessible, inclusive, and community-driven.

“Make Music Bethel is a reminder of how art, creativity, and community intersect,” said Janice Chrzescijanek, Director of Economic Development for the Town of Bethel. “This event welcomes everyone — whether you play an instrument, sing, or simply enjoy great local music."

Originating in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day has since grown into a worldwide phenomenon, celebrated in over 1,000 cities across 120 countries. Unlike traditional music festivals, all Make Music Day events are free and open to the public, with musicians performing in parks, sidewalks, porches, plazas, and anywhere people can gather safely to enjoy live music.

In Connecticut, over 3,100 free concerts have been held since 2018 through the coordination and support of the Connecticut Office of the Arts, part of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development.
