Bethel’s Byrd’s Books is your community source for books of Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy, books for knowledge, entertainment, and personal growth. Its monthly book groups provide an opportunity to share its resources with your family, neighbors, and colleagues more closely. The popular independent bookstore’s book groups are free to the public and always open to newcomers. Meetings are held both in store and on Zoom by request, and books are usually available to purchase in paperback.

On Thursday, September 12th at 7:30pm, the Non-Fiction book group will crack open The Writing of the Gods: The Race to Decode the Rosetta Stone by Edward Dolnick. By the author of Dinosaurs at the Dinner Party and the Edgar Award-winning The Rescue Artist, this riveting account takes an unparalleled look at the culture and history of ancient Egypt and is “also a lesson… in what the human mind does when faced with a puzzle.” (New Yorker) 

On Tuesday, September 17th at 7:30pm, the Sci-Fi Fantasy book group will dive into Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. The inspiration for the Blade Runner films, this dystopian classic follows a protagonist, given a license to on an assignment to uncover several rogue androids lurking among the hordes of humans out there and then… “retire” them. A Nebula Award nominee for Best Novel.

On Thursday, September 19th at 7:30pm, the Fiction book group will exploreThe Last Ranger by Peter Heller. The best-selling author of The River has penned a vivid mystery set in Yellowstone National Park. Populated by a cast of extraordinary characters — famous scientists, tattooed bartenders, wildlife guides in slick Airstreams — this masterful portrait of the American west is bursting with unexpected humor and grace. “Lush writing… powerful!” (Denver Post)
