Arrest for auto theft in Southeast Train Station

Metropolitan Transportation Authority police arrested a 20 year old Carmel man this morning for auto theft in the Southeast Railroad Station commuter parking lot.

At approximately 10:30 this morning Metro North employees observed the young man walking through the commuter lot looking into vehicles. They notified the MTA PD who responded along with a unit from the New York State Police Brewster barracks. Upon arrival at the lot they observed a blue Honda with a young man fitting the description provided by the witnesses attempting to drive the vehicle out of the commuter lot. After stopping the vehicle, MTA police officers were able to ascertain that the operator, a 20 year old Carmel man, who is not identified as of yet, was not the registered owner and did not have permission to take the vehicle. He was placed under arrest by MTA police officers and transported to the Beacon barracks of the MTA PD to be processed for Grand Theft Auto. The vehicle was impounded as evidence by MTA police as well. New York State Police at Brewster also assisted in the investigation.
