Brewster Varsity Field Hockey Starts Their Season Strong
The Brewster Varsity field hockey team is now 3-2. Last Saturday the girls played Putnam Valley; three goals were scored by Jacqueline Benvenuto, Lindsey McLaughlin, and Grace Pastore, with assists by McLaughlin and Pastore. Brewster had 10 corners, and Putnam Valley’s goalies, junior Lauren Turner and Mikaela Lisboa had 12 saves overall. The final score was 3-0.
Two days later Brewster played Sleepy Hollow, winning with an incredible 7-3. Emily Fego had a hat trick that day, scoring three goals in a row, followed by scoring from Ruby Martinez, Carly Mengler, Jacqueline Benvenuto and Jaclyn Anderek. Lindsey McLaughlin and Emily Schaub helped with two assists each, along with assists by Benvenuto, Mary Galgano, and Grace Pastore. Goalies Antoinette Guerriero and Samantha Anfuso saved 3 goals each.
While many offenders scored goals, the defensive line was very strong and persistent throughout the games. The field hockey team is really focusing on their intensity and spacial awareness on the field. They are working as a team to score goals and defend their turf.
Brewster’s next game is home on Friday the 23rd against Pearl River. They are also running the Tunnel to Towers 5k in New York City this Sunday to show support for families and pay tribute to the lives lost due to 9/11. We wish them good luck in all their endeavors!
