Accident Closes Rt 312

A motor vehicle accident closed a portion of Rt 312 earlier today. At approximately 1:38 PM the Brewster Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Rt 312 and Ice Pond Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival the fire department personnel and Sheriff's deputies located a one vehicle accident just west of the aforementioned intersection. There they found a Dodge Aspen minivan facing west on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle had extensive damage to the front bumper on the passenger side. The male driver of the vehicle was taken to Putnam Hospital by Brewster Fire Department ambulance. The extent of his injuries are not known.

The roadway was closed for approximately 30 minutes while the deputies investigated the accident and so a tow truck could remove the vehicle from the scene. At one point traffic was backed up to the Highlands Shopping Center entrance on the eastbound side and to HH Wells Middle school on the westbound side. The roadway was re-opened at approximately 2:10 pm.

The condition of the driver and the extent of his injuries was not known as of this time and the cause of the accident is till under investigation.
