Danbury Titans Fall in Outdoor Classic at Brewster Ice Arena

The Danbury Titans fell last night to the Watertown Wolves on the strength of 2 first period goals. One by ex Titan Ryan Connelly who deflected a shot from Justin Blaszak past a screened Nikita Ivandinkov. Zack Dymock sprung Danny Chang on a breakaway later in the first periodand Chang made a great move to fool Ivandikov and give Watertown a 2 -0 lead going into the first intermission.
The second period saw a change in strategy by both Danbury coach David Lun and Watertown Coach Phil Esposito. Both teams opted to use the shorter ice rink to pepper each other's goalie with shots from just about anywhere on the ice hoping for a bounce or deflection in the low evening sunlight that would give them a fluke goal. Both goalies were equal to the task and stood firm, allowing no goals in the second period. More end to end action in the third period proved fruitless until 3/4 of the way through when the Titans went on the power play. Coach Lun would pull his goalie to give the Titans a 6 on 4 advantage in an attempt to get back in the game. However, Wolves defenseman Blaszak took a puck deep in his own end and fired it down the length of the ice into the open goal for a 3-0 Watertown lead. Off the ensuing face off Titan forward John Sçully got in front of the Watertown goal and banged home his tenth goal of the season to spoil the shutout and pull the Titans within 2 once again. Danbury coach Danbury Lun once again pulled his goalie with under 2 minutes remaining and Watertown's Mark Petaccio, the league's leading scorer got their second empty net goal with under a minute remaining to seal a 4-1 Waterrown very which moved them 2 points ahead of Danbury and into third place in the standings
The teams will face each other for the third game in a row on Friday at the Watertown Municipal Arena before the Titans cross the border to duel with the Cornwall Nationals on Saturday. Then, the Titans will return home on February 11th to host the Nationals and finish the home and home series. Fans will be able to bid on the special black uniforms the Titans have worn for the month of January.
