Putnam Hospital Center opens Integrative Health suite for breast cancer patients

Breast cancer patients at Putnam Hospital Center now have an opportunity to be treated holistically with the opening this month of the medical center’s Integrative Health suite.

The complimentary program provides alternative therapies to patients as they undergo surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. The hospital has contracted with Liberation Yoga of Mahopac to bring an array of services including yoga classes, massage therapy, reiki, reflexology and meditation. 

“This new program enables us to provide whole mind and body care to the patients that need it the most,” said Maureen Pace, Putnam Hospital Center’s director of clinical services.

Dr. Lyda Rojas, breast surgeon and medical director of the breast cancer program at Putnam Hospital Center, and Dr. Vinita Agarwal, chief of pathology at Putnam Hospital Center, both on the hospital’s medical staff, cut the ribbon this week on the Integrative Health program located on the hospital campus in suite 114. The suite has a yoga studio and two rooms for therapeutic services. Nutritional counseling and lymphedema treatments are also housed in the suite.

The opening of Integrative Health comes on the heels of the hospital’s accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons and only granted to centers committed to providing the highest level of quality breast care to its patients.

Radiology at Putnam Hospital Center also now provides patients with 3-D mammography, a more accurate breast screening technology.
