The following letter was sent by Brewster Central School District on January 26, 2018 regarding the status of the repairs to the varsity baseball and softball fields.
Dear Parents & Guardians,
We write to update you on the status of the repairs to the varsity baseball and softball fields. As previously reported , these two fields will not be available for the Spring 2018 sports season while they are being repaired. Our architects, KG&D Architects, and civil engineers, Insite Engineering, have completed their proposal for repairing the fields so they are safe for our student-athletes. This proposal was reviewed by our Athletic Fields Renovation Committee and approved by the Board of Education on January 23rd. It is our expectation that this work will begin late spring/early summer, but it is largely dependent upon the prompt approval of the different regulatory authorities (NYS Department of Environmental Conservation [DEC], NYC Department of Environmental Protection [DEP], and NYS Education Department) that have jurisdiction over this project.
During construction, our practices and games will need to be held at offsite locations. The Town of Southeast has been exceptionally accommodating of our needs and will allow the baseball teams to play at Volunteer Park (on Zimmer Road) and the softball teams to play at Markel Park (on Main Street). However, we understand that we must be adaptable and flexible throughout the season since a tremendous amount of effort goes into the coordination of both Town Recreation athletic events and School District athletic events. We thank the Town of Southeast for their continued support, and look forward to collaborating with them on this endeavor.
Sincerely,
Victor Karlsson Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations
