The Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut has been keeping area kids busy this summer at its Camp Greenknoll Summer Camp. A record number of campers – about 350 a week, from ages 3-15 – have been enjoying the camp's unique mix of fun, games and educational programs. Camp activities include swimming, snorkeling, archery, kayaking, ropes courses, volleyball, wood crafts and basketball. Since the Y is focused on keeping kids both physically and mentally active, Camp Greenknoll also features enrichment projects – such as math games, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) challenges and Language Arts activities – to help minimize summertime learning loss.
"Who says vacation and learning can't go hand in hand?" said Sean Turner, Y Director of Youth Development. "Our campers flex their brains as well as their muscles, they're just having too much fun to realize it."
Thanks in part to the generous support of Fairfield County Community Foundation, The Peter and Carmen Lucia Buck Foundation, Hudson City Savings Charitable Foundation, Inner City Foundation and the Estate of Ruth I. Kruass, financial scholarships are available to qualifying campers.
