
Remembering an American Hero – NASA was saddened by the loss of Apollo astronaut Al Worden, who passed away March 18. As command module pilot on the Apollo 15 lunar landing, he orbited the Earth while crewmates David Scott and Jim Irwin explored the surface. He also walked in space on the return trip to Earth, retrieving film from an exterior module.
Like other command module pilots, Worden stayed as busy as his colleagues on the surface. But, he also took some time to enjoy the view. “Every time I came around the Moon I went to a window and watched the Earth rise and that was pretty unique.” For more information on the life and career of Al Worden visit:
