North Mianus School, Cos Cob
Cos Cob is a mix of many neighborhoods. One of them is North Mianus, the small community on the Mianus River, North of the Post Road.
Back in the 1900's it was known as Dumpling Pond, and was one of Greenwich's first commercial districts. Large ships would come and go picking up fresh produce from local farms.
The immigrant population consisted mostly of Italian descent. Many took root settling near the Community Center, which today is home to the new Bridges Preschool. I guess History does repeat itself as the Community Center once housed part of the North Mianus School back in the day. The new North Mianus School opened on Palmer Hill Road in 1926. Through the decades the school has had many additions and restorations, but the red brick structure still oozes with charm, and is the hub of this close-knit community.
Today, North Mianus is a quiet residential community rich in natural parkland. It's one of the neighbohoods that make Cos Cob such a great place to live.
