 The town is mourning the passing of 18-year Greenwich Police Veteran, Sgt. Roger Petrone who passed away in his Stamford home, February 20, after a 7-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was 44.

Sgt. Petrone was part of the department's SWAT and Scuba team. He was a highly decorated member of the force, receiving many commendations, including one from CT SWAT and others from the FBI and DEA.  Sgt. He is also credited in saving a life with CPR.

After his retirement in 2012, he continued to stay active in bringing ALS awareness to the forefront in the community and beyond. His leadership in this cause led to  receiving the ALS Foundation's Steven Milne Spirit Award in October, 2013.

Sgt. Petrone leaves behind a 6 year old daughter. His funeral will be held at St. Mary's Church on Wednesday.
