Sons of the American Revolution Presents Awards at 84th Annual Meeting

(Greenwich, CT) - The Matthew Mead Branch of the Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution held its 84th Annual Meeting Saturday March 22, 2014 at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich CT. Branch President Thomas Gorin presented Compatriot Jason Bacon of Greenwich with the SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal. The Bronze Good Citizenship Medal recognizes persons whose achievements are noteworthy in their school, community or state. Compatriots David Maxwell and Carl Stone, both of Greenwich, received the SAR Roger Sherman Medal in recognition of, and in appreciation of their outstanding services rendered to the Matthew Mead Branch throughout the years.

Marc Robinson of Greenwich CT was elected president of the Branch. In addition, Wesley Oler IV was elected Vice President, Thomas Gorin as Secretary, James Walters as Treasurer, Timothy Beard as Registrar and Daniel Benoit as Auditor. Charles Riegle, Carl Stone, Charles Lucas MD and David Maxwell were reelected as Trustees of the Branch.

Stephen Payson Shaw, President of CTSSAR spoke on the history of the creation of the Connecticut and National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution as 2014 is the 125th anniversary of both organizations. The 2014 Connecticut SAR Eagle Scout Essay winner Jackson Gelinas was unable to attend and had his winning essay ready by his father Dr. John Gelinas.

Branch President Gorin formally inducted Compatriots Daniel Benoit of Stamford CT and Steven Stearns of Riverside CT into the Matthew Mead Branch of the Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
