Come See the Danbury Orchestra Tomorrow at Ives Concert Hall

Evan Lunt and Alex Lampel Tomorrow, May 6th, The Danbury Community Orchestra will perform under the direction of Stephen Michael Smith, music director and conductor, in Ives Concert Hall, 181 White Street, at 7:00 p.m.

Ives Concert Hall is located in White Hall on the mid-town campus of Western Connecticut State University

Featuring 80 teenagers and adult musicians, the Danbury Community Orchestra's members come from more than 15 area towns. This orchestra encourages teens and adults to perform side by side.

The program will include Sibelius' Symphony No. 2, a brilliant portrait of the icy and beautiful landscape of Finland; a rousing selection from our southern neighbor, Mexico, Huapango by Moncayo; and from sunny Italy, Capriccio Italien by Russian composer, Tchaikovsky.

Three guest artists will be featured in the concert. Nicola Gruen, concertmentor of the Danbury Community Orchestra since 2005, will perform a movement from Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5. Also, departing high school senior, cellist Evan Lunt, along with Alex Lampel, principal cellist of the orchestra, will perform Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Cellos.

This concert is one hour in length and is suitable for families with children.

Stephen Michael Smith has been music director and conductor of the Danbury Community Orchestra since 2004. He resides in New York City and in New Fairfield. He is also the director of the Long Island Pops Orchestra, the director of the Stephen Smith Singers of New York City, the director of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, and the Founder/Conductor Laureate of Sing Out! Brooklyn. He has been guest conductor of numerous orchestras throughout Europe and the USA.

Admission is free, thanks to major funding from Susan and Robert Payne.
