Rick Pope, Physician Assistant at Danbury Orthopedics, elected President of the Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants

Danbury Orthopedics, a member of Western Connecticut Orthopedic Specialists, is proud to announce that Rick Pope, PA-C, has been elected President of the Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants. Prior to this election, Mr. Pope was on the Board of Directors and served as Vice President. He will assume Presidential duties as of July 1, 2013.
Mr. Pope began his career in emergency medicine at Danbury Hospital, followed by six years in family practice at the Family Health Care Center of Newtown. He has been a Rheumatology PA at Danbury Orthopedics for the past 5 years. A dedicated caregiver with strong leaderships skills, he founded the Society of Physician Assistants in Rheumatology and served three terms as its President.
One of Mr. Pope’s goals is to advocate for family practice Physician Assistants in the State of CT and across the country as the Affordable Health Care Act becomes a reality. With workforce shortages looming in primary care, he has been promoting research and action on this healthcare issue for several years. He supports strong collaborative relationships between PAs and MDs, with PAs functioning as more integral partners on the healthcare team.
In keeping with his professional mission, Mr. Pope is now an editor of Clinician Reviews, a peer reviewed medical journal for PAs and NPs, and plans to publish a series on rheumatology clinical reviews. This appointment is Mr. Pope’s second editorial position; he was previously a leading editorialist for Arthritis Practitioner, a journal for NPs and PAs specializing in Rheumatology.
A tireless advocate for his field, Mr. Pope will also assume presidency of the Connecticut PA Foundation which raises money for Physician Assistant scholarships at Yale, Quinnipiac University and the University of Bridgeport.
His colleagues at Danbury Orthopedics and the entire team of Western Connecticut Orthopedic Specialists salute Rick Pope for his professionalism and dedication.
