Danbury Youth Services to Host Annual Butterfly Breakfast

Danbury Youth Services (DYS) will host its annual Butterfly Breakfast on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:30 a.m. at the Amber Room Colonnade, celebrating decades of service to youth and families across Greater Danbury. This signature event highlights the transformative work of DYS and the vital support of community partners.

As part of the celebration, DYS will honor two outstanding community champions whose dedication and collaboration have made a lasting impact on the organization’s mission.

The Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board (NRWIB) will be recognized for its 13-year partnership with DYS. Through their funding and support, NRWIB has helped sustain Youth Employment Programs across Connecticut, which provide essential job training and employment opportunities for youth, particularly the economically disadvantaged. Over 700 participants in Greater Danbury alone have benefitted from the program. By equipping young people with job readiness and workplace skills, NRWIB plays a critical role in preparing the next generation for career success.

Elke Sweeney, Director of Prevention Services at the Midwestern Connecticut Council of Alcoholism (MCCA) and driving force behind Stand Together Make A Difference, will be honored for her longstanding commitment to youth, equity, and community wellness. A passionate advocate and leader, Sweeney has worked tirelessly to educate and empower underserved populations—including immigrant and homeless communities—through prevention education, mental health awareness, and outreach. Her efforts have been instrumental in fostering a safe, culturally competent, and resilient community.

“The Annual Butterfly Breakfast is a heartfelt way for us to thank our network of supporters—including community members, elected officials, board members, and staff—who make our work possible,” said Tammy Mikadze, Executive Director of Danbury Youth Services. “We are especially proud to recognize two remarkable partners who have shared their time and talents to strengthen programs and create meaningful change in the lives of young people.”

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at www.danburyyouthservices.org. Proceeds from the event directly support DYS programs benefiting youth and families in Greater Danbury.
