Middlesex Middle School hosted the Third annual Charter Oak Scholastic Open quiz bowl tournament on Sunday, January 26. Even though this year's tournament was extremely competitive, Middlesex achieved outstanding success with three of the four Middlesex teams finishing in the top 15% and, thereby, qualifying for the National Championship Tournament in Atlanta this May.
This year's Charter Oak was the largest ever consisting of 26 teams from 11 middle schools from four states. The Charter Oak quiz bowl competition consisted of students answering questions that ranged over the entire spectrum of middle school curriculum, as well as, special events, sports, and popular culture.
Middlesex teacher Ken Romeo and Barbara Ivey, the MMS quiz bowl coaches, organized and ran this highly successful tournament that attracted many spectators including State Senator Bob Duff.
