Polar Plunge at Peartree

For the fifth year in a row, Paul Quick and Clint Hall took the Polar Plunge today at Peartree Point Beach. What began as a New Year's Day escapade between the two of them has blossomed into a neighborhood event each January. This was the first year it was held on Super Bowl Sunday and the feeling is this may be the day to do it going forward.
Ten Darieners took the plunge with about twenty spectators. George, the blue lobster, was 2014's mascot. George, later, returned home to the ocean.
They were lucky that the temperatures were a bit warmer today at 44 degrees, but that did not help the brutal cold of the Long Island Sound. According to the National Oceanographic Data Center the water's temperature was about 35 degree Fahrenheit today.
Many commented that after surviving the plunge they felt invigorated. Perfect for settling in and enjoying some football. See more photos on our Facebook Page.
