Cupcake Giant Crumbles: Crumbs Has Shut Down All Operations

Crumbs Bake Shop announced yesterday they would be immediately closing the doors on all of their locations. Founded by husband and wife team Jason and Mia Bauer, Crumbs Bake Shop opened it's first location in Manhattan back in 2003 after the show "Sex in the City" inspired a cupcake craze. They've since been up against cupcake shops popping up all over Manhattan. The sweet store joined the Danbury Fair Mall back in 2013 as Connecticut's fifth location (joining shops in Westport, New Canaan, Stamford and Greenwich). In the end, they had expanded to include 48 stores in 10 states.

The last ditch decision to close all locations comes after Crumbs failed to profit after going public in 2011. "Regrettably Crumbs has been forced to cease operations and is immediately attending to the dislocation of its devoted employees while it evaluates its limited remaining options," a Crumbs spokeswoman told the Wall Street Journal who first broke the news. As of last night, Crumbs management had informed all staff that all 48 stores were to cease operations and close their doors.
