Major Winter Storm Expected to Hit Darien Late Tonight into Tuesday

A major winter storm is expected late tonight into Tuesday afternoon/evening.
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for all of Connecticut now including the coastline.
- The track of the storm has shifted slightly to the south and also will be slightly stronger. This will result in more snow
and less mixed precipitation along the shoreline.
- Moderate to heavy snow is expected with snowfall totals ranging from 6-14”.
Snowfall rates could exceed 2” per hour at times during the height of the storm.
-Timing: Snow will develop between 3am and 6am statewide. Snow will end between 4pm and 7pm statewide.
-Accumulations: Total snowfall accumulations for most of Connecticut of 10-14” are expected with totals of 6-10” along the immediate shoreline and far northern Litchfield County.
-Impacts: Major travel impacts are expected for the morning commute with moderate to major impacts during the afternoon/evening commute. Isolated power outages are expected with wind gusts to 45 mph along the shoreline and into eastern Connecticut.
-Consistency: The consistency of the snow will be primarily a heavy wet snow and could be difficult to move.
