West Palm Beach is FIRED UP for the return of the 11th Annual BBQ, Brews and Blues. The event will return to Heart & Soul Park in the Historic Northwest and feature live music, activities, food and drinks for purchase, and more, including delicious barbecue, soul-stirring blues, and local public safety heroes. Event activities include: BBQ Throwdown BBQ restaurant and food truck vendors from across South Florida will compete in the annual BBQ, Blues and Brews Throwdown for the chance to win $1,500 in prize money. The first-place winner will receive $1,000 and the coveted trophy, while the People’s Choice winner will get $500. Fire Grill Drill First responders will compete in their own “helmet-to-helmet” BBQ Throwdown competition. Attendees can watch live as local life-saving heroes compete in a 90-minute Fire Grill Drill to earn the “Best Firehouse BBQ” award. The winning station will receive a $500 donation to the charity of their choice. Brews Station Craft beers from local South Florida breweries will be available for purchase. Kids Play Pit The family-friendly kids area will include storytelling by Rohi’s Readery from Northwest Styx, an interactive dress-up station, giant bubble fun, face painting, Pin the Tail on the Piggie, and more. A West Palm Beach Fire Department firetruck will also be available for an interactive “touch-a-truck” event. The event will also feature various food trucks with food and drinks for purchase, vendors, contests and prizes, and more! BBQ, Brews and Blues Entertainment includes: Selwyn Birchwood (Blues) Although award-winning Florida musician Selwyn Birchwood is deeply rooted in tradition, the young guitarist, lap steel player, songwriter, and vocalist charts a course for the future of the blues with his innovative, original music. Birchwood, whose band features the dynamic interplay of his fiery guitar with Regi Oliver’s driving baritone sax, creates a unique sound and style all his own. He calls it “Electric Swamp Funkin’ Blues,” an exhilarating mix of deep blues, blistering, psychedelic-tinged rock, funk that makes you want to move, and smooth Southern soul, performed and sung with the passion and intensity of a revival tent preacher with a hellhound on his trail. The Derek Mack Band (Motown, Rock, Pop) The Derek Mack Band is one of South Florida’s premier show bands. A high-energy and versatile group of musicians, the band is known for playing music from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, 2000s, and today. A multi-talented musician and singer/songwriter, Derek has shared the stage with top recording artists, including BB King, George McCrae, Kool and the Gang, The Commodores, Taylor Dane, and Earth, Wind & Fire, among others. Kat Riggins (Soul) Kat Riggins’ powerhouse voice, often compared to legendary artists like Koko Taylor and Tina Turner, commands attention. The Miami-born singer’s live shows, full of high-energy soul anthems and soulful ballads, leave audiences feeling deeply moved.
