Stratton Faxon Fairfield Half Marathon sold out- 5K has only 300 spots left!

Fairfield: The Stratton Faxon Fairfield Half Marathon filled up at a record pace and only about 300 spots are available in the 5K! The half marathon reached its 5,000 runner limit earlier today. Due to the overwhelming growth of both races, the 33rd annual event is taking place over 2 days again this year. The 5K takes place Saturday, June 22nd and the Half Marathon on Sunday, June 23rd at Fairfield's Jennings Beach. Last year's race had a record crowd of nearly 6,000 participants, this year the 5K is capped at 1,500 and the Half Marathon at 5,000. Raceday entries may be available for the 5K. From its inception the event has been hosted by the Fairfield Firefighters.

"We're thrilled at the response from the running community and the long term growth of the event. In 1981 our inaugural race had 200 runners; we couldn't have dreamed the race would grow to 6,500 runners and sell out before the event" states Steve Lobdell, Race Director.

The Fairfield Road Races are a non-profit organization that, with the help of its participants, has contributed over $1 million to non-profit groups in the past. Lobdell states, "This past year alone over $400,000 was raised for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Giant Steps, John Patrick Flanagan Foundation, Fairfield YMCA, Connecticut Burns Care Foundation and a number of other local charities." Runners can get a free entry into this year's race by raising money for Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.

"We are very excited to return as Title Sponsor of the Fairfield races and are proud to support an event that gives so much back to the community," said Michael Stratton, partner of Stratton Faxon Law Firm. Sponsoring the race is part of Stratton Faxon's 10% philosophy. That is, that 10% of case fees are set aside to support charitable causes that help better the community or civil jury system.
