Lorraine Schoen Burnett of Fairfield, Conn., passed away peacefully early Monday, Oct. 12, 2015 at the age of 88. She was the devoted wife of John F. Burnett Jr.

Born in Danbury, Conn., on Feb. 24, 1927, she spent her entire youth in Danbury. Her father was George J. Schoen, the first police chief in Danbury's history, and her mother was Helena McCarthy. She graduated from Danbury high school in 1944, where she was a cheerleader and basketball player. She had two brothers and a sister who predeceased her. It was while at Danbury high school that she met her future husband, "Jack." Following high school, Lorraine received a degree as a dental hygienist.

She married her high school sweetheart on June 26, 1952, and shortly thereafter moved to Fairfield where they resided for the next four decades and raised their three sons. They would remain inseparable for the next 57 years until he passed away in 2009. Following their retirement they moved to Narragansett, R.I., where they spent many enjoyable days walking along the rugged New England coastline they both dearly loved.

An ardent sports enthusiast, she especially enjoyed football, and was also an accomplished knitter, specializing in beautiful, intricate Irish knit sweaters which were prized by all the family members. She was very proud of both her German and Irish roots, and in her retirement years spent many hours researching the latter, including a visit to the ancestral farmlands in County Clare.

She is survived by three sons, Gregg Burnett of Fairfield, Conn., John Burnett of Narragansett, R.I. and Jeff Burnett of Wakefield, R.I., and six grandchildren, Timothy, John, Jane, Sarah, Casey and Patrick.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 at St. Peter's Church on Main Street in Danbury, Conn. Burial followed in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
