Fairfield, CT -- Theodore R. Ivanko, 86 of Fairfield, the beloved husband of 63 years to high school sweetheart, Catherine Ruskay Ivanko, died peacefully at home on June 3, 2016. He was the son of the late Julius and Elizabeth Reho Ivanko.

Ted grew up in Southport and played sports at the Wakeman Boys Club. He graduated from the Pequot School, Roger Ludlowe High School and the University of Bridgeport. Ted was an avid golfer and member of the Patterson, Belmont Country, Chattahoochee Country and Fayerweather Yacht Clubs.

Ted was the quintessential engineer with multiple patents and became VP of Manufacturing at AVCO Lycoming. He was instrumental in the development of the T-53, T-55 and AGT-1500 gas turbine engines used by the US Army. He left AVCO after 37 years to become VP of Manufacturing & General Manager of the Teledyne Corp. in Toledo, OH and built a state of the art manufacturing facility in Gainesville, GA. In retirement, he worked at Collins Medical Equipment.

In addition to his wife, Ted is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Karenko of Branford and son, David Ivanko and his spouse, John Brannelly of Fairfield. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Julius and his uncle Frank Ivanko and his son-in-law Alan Karenko.

Friends are invited to greet his family on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 11 AM directly at St. Pius X Church. Interment will be private.
