Fairfield County Children’s Choir and Duke University Chorale Concert, March 13

The Fairfield County Children’s Choir Chamber Singers and the Duke University Chorale will collaborate in concert. The concert will take place on March 13^th from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Greenfield Hill Church 1045 Academy Road, Fairfield, CT 06824. Donations Welcome.

Former Chamber singer of (FCCC) Katherine Waugh now a Duke University student will be performing with the Duke University Chorale.

The primary choral group of the Department of Music at Duke, is composed of 50 Duke graduate and undergraduate singers. The Chorale performs numerous concerts throughout the year, both on and off campus, and tours annually during Duke’s Spring Break.  In previous years the Chorale has toured China, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, England, Wales, Mexico, and many parts of the U.S.  The Chorale is delighted that their 2018 tour brings them to the Northeastern U.S., with concerts in New York, Greenwich and Fairfield CT, Philadelphia, Richmond and Culpeper VA, and Winston-Salem, NC.

The Chorale’s tour repertoire features both sacred and secular music ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary works, and from unaccompanied works to pieces with piano and other instruments.  The group has performed major works with professional orchestras, including the Verdi and Brahms Requiems, Bach's Mass in B Minor, Haydn’s Creation, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, and Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert, and most recently performed Mendelssohn’s Elijah. 

The Chorale has been conducted by Rodney Wynkoop since 1984 and is accompanied by Mary Hamilton. Rodney Wynkoop is Director of University Choral Music and the Director of Chapel Music. He conducts the Duke Chapel Choir and the Duke University Chorale and is on the faculty of the Music Department at Duke, where he holds the title of Professor of the Practice of Music. He was awarded Duke University’s Meritorious Service Award for Executive Leadership in 2009. In addition to his choirs at Duke, Dr. Wynkoop is conductor of the 150-voice Choral Society of Durham and its 32-voice Chamber Choir, he is also the founder and director of the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Durham. 

The Fairfield County Children’s Choir (FCCC) is a community-based choral program made up of 300 children in grades four through twelve from communities in and around Fairfield County.
