FAIRFIELD, CONN. – On Monday, May 14, fifth graders from across Fairfield, CT will participate in the 36th annual town-wide Spelling Bee. Each elementary school in town will host its own mini Spelling Bee in school to select 38 young participants who will compete for top honors at Roger Ludlowe Middle School auditorium at 7pm on the 14th. Continuing a three-decade tradition, the Junior Women’s Club of Fairfield will once again host this fun and inspiring event. The event promises to keep audience members on the edge of their seats as the classroom winners from fifth grade classes in Fairfield’s public schools vie to out spell their opponents. The top three winners will receive special prizes donated by the Fairfield JWC and several corporate sponsors, including a generous gift certificate donated by Saugatuck Sweets for the 1st place winner -- 3 months of a 2-scoop ice cream cone per week!

The JWC is excited to welcome back returning judges John Kovach, Editorial Director HAN Network and Andrea Canuel, Associate Director for Service Learning at Fairfield University. A welcome addition to the judge’s panel will be Tamara Lyhne, Head of Children's Services at Fairfield Public Library.

In addition to the Spelling Bee, the JWC of Fairfield hosts a “A Visit to Santa’s House” in December, the proceeds of which benefit the club’s charitable CARE partner, as well as local scholarship recipients. The club also hosts community service projects and social events throughout the year. To learn more about the club, visit www.jwcfairfield.com. The club can also be found on Facebook.
