NPT & Wakeman Boys & Girls Club Partner for "Grease"

WESTON/FAIRFIELD, Conn. New Paradigm Theatre (NPT), a company well-known for its inventive productions is partnering with community non-profit Wakeman Boys & Girls club for an upcoming live theatre production of “Grease” (August 18 &19).

Each summer, The New Paradigm Theatre Company’s unique template is to partner with another non-profit organization that reflects the theme of the summer production.

As part of that partnership, on July 5, teenage performers from the New Paradigm Theatre worked with Wakeman Boys & Girls campers to teach them about singing, dancing and acting. They also performed songs from Grease and taught the young students the Hand Jive. Each Wakeman student will also receive two free tickets to see NPT's production of Grease in August.

For the production, New Paradigm Theatre hired professionals for some leading roles and then cast local youth that applied for the three-week rehearsal and workshop experience so they could learn elbow to elbow with the professionals and about the value of volunteering for community organizations. Principal Lynch will be played by Broadway, Radio and Voiceover star Randye Kaye.

Young people ages 8-18 are a part of the cast. The show will include live and movie scenes directed by Broadway veteran and artistic director Kristin Huffman. Helen Hen, a junior from Fairfield Warde who is playing the role of “Marty” says, “Partnering with Wakeman’s Boys & Girls was an incredible experience! I loved being able to perform and teach the kids something new and see how much fun they were having.” Also a NPT Youth board member, Hen has been in many NPT shows and volunteers for service projects with the theatre for each show.
