Ayana's Angle: Plasko's Farm, Your Fall Stop a Skip Away from Fairfield

With fall’s arrival, I have been on the hunt to get pumpkins, eat apple cider doughnuts, sip on some hot apple cider and just enjoy the various activities that come along with this season. Most people I know who live in Fairfield get their fall activity fix from Silverman’s, which I have been to before and thoroughly enjoy, but it can be difficult to go somewhere that is always so crowded at this time of year. I’m here to suggest another spot that is often overlooked by people in this area: Plasko’s Farm, 670 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull.

Plasko’s Farm Creamery and Café has been around since 1925, and was started by immigrants from Czechoslovakia. In 1997 it was expanded from being a corn and produce farm, to a farm with a bakery and country store. In 2017 they added an ice cream store, and in 2020 they opened a café. This week I was able to visit Plasko’s and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and all the things they had to offer.

The first stop was at the pumpkin patch. The farm has a wide variety of pumpkins for purchase including large, small and medium orange pumpkins and other various colored pumpkins. They also had different decorative gourds for sale. I have always loved being able to go through a pumpkin patch and choose my perfect one. I know everyone has their preferences where some like the ones that are weirdly shaped, have different colors or are stemless. I personally like the pumpkins that are orange with white vertical stripes or orange with green vertical stripes, with a long swooping stem. I try to find the ones that look flawless! Plasko’s had so many to consider that I was having trouble deciding on what kind I wanted. There IS truly something for everyone, so don’t be worried because you will be successful! In the end I decided on two mini orange pumpkins and one large pumpkin with orange and white vertical stripes.

After choosing my fall decor, I decided to go into the café to get myself a sweet drink. The café has a cozy and rustic feel to it. They offer an assortment of pastries, coffee, tea and other drinks. They also have pints of ice cream and ice cream cakes for purchase, even when the ice cream store is closed. The café has a nice seating area for people to socialize, a space to study and room to simply enjoy one's food and drink.

Upon entering, my eyes were immediately drawn to the chalkboard full of drink options, and as I was in a fall mood, I opted for a warm cup of apple cider. The cider was the perfect temperature and had warming notes of cinnamon and clove. Although I didn’t try any of the pastries, the pumpkin doughnuts and the apple cider doughnuts looked incredible.

With the apple cider in hand, I explored the rest of the farm a little more. At the back of the farm, Plasko’s has a corn maze and hayride during this season. The corn maze is open through October 27 and runs on the weekends from 11am to 6pm. The maze is carved into 4.5 acres of land, so it is no joke and can be entertaining for both kids and adults. The hayride is also available for all age groups on the weekends if that’s something in which you like to take part.

Overall, Plasko’s is a wonderful spot a few towns over that you should most definitely try to visit this month. Buy a pumpkin, drink or eat something sweet and enjoy the outdoor fall activities they have to offer!
