Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts is excited to host a special screening of the critically acclaimed film Sing Sing on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. The evening will feature a discussion with Brent Buell, whose real-life experiences with the Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) program inspired the film. This event is part of the Quick Center’s Global Theatre Series, curated by on- and off-Broadway producer Cheryl Wiesenfeld.

Sing Sing chronicles the transformative power of theater within the prison system, and how theater allows incarcerated individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and respect—offering a stark contrast to the punitive nature of traditional criminal justice. Starring Colman Domingo and Clarence Maclin, the film has garnered over 75 award nominations and 23 wins, including multiple Gotham Awards.

The evening will also include a discussion moderated by Wiesenfeld, featuring Buell, Fairfield University Visual and Performing Arts Professor Patrick Brooks, and potentially some of the talented actors from the film. The Global Theatre Series, which has highlighted works focused on social justice and incarceration, continues its mission to demonstrate how theater can change lives and drive social change.
