Letter: "Tony Hwang: Effective Independent Leadership"

The following is a Letter submitted by Cynthia McCorkindale of Bethel, CT, regarding CT Senator Tony Hwang and his bid for re-election.

"The 2024 elections are right around the corner, and so I am writing in support of State Senator Tony Hwang in his bid for re-election representing Connecticut’s 28th Senatorial District, which includes the towns of Bethel, Easton, Fairfield, and Newtown. 

I have known Tony for several years now, and, during this time, have come to respect many of his positions – above all, his commitment to putting people over politics. Although he is a registered Republican, this year he has been cross endorsed by the Independent Party of Connecticut, an indication that he is a broad thinker, with views that speak to a wide range of taxpayer concerns. 

As an Independent, I am interested in the philosophy and actions of a candidate, rather than the party line. Tony is an independent thinker who believes in fiscal accountability as well as social responsibility, affordability for all Connecticut residents, focusing on obstacles that preclude this goal – high taxes, food prices, inflation, as well as skyrocketing utility costs. 

Connecticut is currently experiencing a power struggle as the State attempts to wrest decision-making from our municipal planning and zoning commissions, incentivizing massive multi-unit housing projects that are effectively destroying the quaint appeal of small towns like Bethel, where I have lived for over 35 years. Tony has been a leader in his non-partisan approach to local government input on housing, land use and zoning, while his opponent has only recently moved into the district and practices more as a partisan operative with no real evidence of community connection. His opponent seems to have no real policy values as evidenced by his overall voting record, which explains why he has waged a negative misinformation campaign against Tony Hwang. 

On November 5th, vote for the guy who is in your corner, who has connective tissue with the community, and who will continue to fight on behalf of the 28th district.
