Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
Meet Jeanine Stevener, founder of Jeanine Stevener Designs.
Why did you start your business?
I launched my own business because of my genuine love for styling and decorating, both in my own home and for friends and family. The process always filled me with immense joy, as I relished in rearranging spaces until they felt “just right”. With constant praise for my knack in this area and encouragement from those around me to turn it into a business, I initially doubted the feasibility. However, after gaining experience working with various designers, I eventually mustered the courage to take the leap of faith. Beginning with small projects, I gradually expanded to full-scale home renovations. Looking back, I regret not pursuing this path sooner, but once I got started, there was no turning back.
What is your best-selling product/service?
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
When sourcing items, such as tile and carpeting, my first choice is always to support local small businesses. My top destinations include Carpet King in Fairfield and Norwalk as well as New England Tile in Fairfield. These establishments have played a crucial role in the growth of my business by consistently providing exceptional service and competitive prices.
