Red Cross Helping 25 People After Hartford Fire

The American Red Cross is helping 25 people in seven families after a fire this morning in Hartford and last night in East Hartford.

In Hartford, the Red Cross is helping 20 people – 11 adults and nine children in six families – with emergency housing, food and clothing needs after a fire early today on Park Street. Red Cross team members Sandee Sorel-LeDuc, Jon Basso, Joyce Godin, Scott Glenney, Pat Welch, Kim Lingard, Larry Winnick and Chris Baker responded to assist the families.

Last night, the Red Cross responded to a fire on Jaidee Drive in East Hartford and assisted a family of three adults and two children with emergency food and baby needs after a fire. The family was able to make alternative housing arrangements. Red Cross team members Gladys Kielb, Rhonda Leonard and Eloise Bennett responded to assist the family.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits to the affected families from both fires containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a family might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers. For more information about the Red Cross and how you can help, visit www.redcross.org.
