Spotted: Culture in the Garden

Members of Hartford's Sea Tea Improv staged a performance in the garden of the Butler-McCook House on Main Street last Thursday.

Built in 1782, the house is the oldest remaining structure on Main Street, and Hartford's oldest surviving homestead. The Victorian ornamental garden dates from 1865.

Sea tea's show was based on the travels of four generations of Butlers and McCooks, who lived in this house for 189 years. It followed a musical performance by the Lift Every Voice and Sing Community Choir. The event was part of the Cultural Cocktail Hour held at the house on the second Thursday of each month. The series features different artists every month, and continues through December.
