Harvey Girls Get LAX League Awards; Katonah’s Albert and Mallon Honored

Several Harvey players on the 2015 Housatonic Valley Athletic League (HVAL) girls championship lacrosse team have earned individual league honors for outstanding performances in their squad’s undefeated season.
Named as HVAL All League players were midfielders Sadie Albert, Sophia Scarsella and Julia Mallon, attacker Aliya Mayers and goalkeeper Ariana Weaver. Albert, a freshman from Katonah, led the team in goals with 42 and assists with 34. Scarsella, an eighth-grader from Briarcliff Manor, was second on the team in scoring with 28 goals and 14 assists. Mayers, a senior captain and resident of Pleasantville also had 28 goals and collected 12 assists. Mallon, a freshman also of Katonah, had 25 goals. Weaver, a senior from Elmsford, made 73 saves in front of net for Harvey.
Scarsella and Mayers were also selected as New England Prep School Women’s Lacrosse Association All Stars while Albert and defensive standout Tiaja Downer, a Bronx resident, were named All Stars by the Western New England Prep School Women’s Lacrosse Association.
Coach Greg Janos was happy to see the leagues acknowledge Harvey’s players. “The players were absolutely deserving of the individual honors they received, but winning the championship was truly a team effort with important contributions from everyone,” said the coach.
In defeating Watkinson in the championship game, the Lady Cavaliers avenged their loss to the Lady Rams in last year’s title game. It is the first HVAL championship for Harvey’s girl lacrosse program.
