Each year, business lifestyle magazine, 914INC., celebrates the achievements of local professionals under the age of 30, or “Wunderkinds.” They welcomed a new class of Wunderkinds during a recently held event at Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club. Among the 23 honorees who have exhibited notable business skill and made interesting and exciting contributions to Westchester business, was George Williams Jr. of A.G. Williams Painting Company.
George Williams Jr. joined the family business as Human Resources Coordinator in 2012, and was responsible for evolving and expanding their HR department. During that time, he made advancements to employee handbooks, developed a new hire orientation program, and put in place the A.G. Williams Training Program, which helps new painters perfect their craft and continue the techniques and legacy of the company’s previous generations. He also grew the organization with his hiring of over 30 employees and retainment of several of those employees across seasons.
Earlier this year, at 27 years old, Williams Jr. was promoted to Director of Inside Operations, and took on the responsibility of facilitating recruitment drives, heading the company’s leadership meetings, and continuing the progress he’s already made with their training programs. He also took the lead on safety protocol implementation with his introduction of the A.G. Williams Safety Program, which not only earned the company an average of $60,000 in annual savings on their workman’s compensation program, but also the Safety Bronze Award from Summit Services, a national consulting group specializing in the painting industry.
“It’s an honor to be named a 2017 Wunderkind by 914INC. Magazine, and to be acknowledged alongside such talented young professionals. I hope to continue to achieve and make great contributions both to my company and Westchester County in the years to come,” said George Williams Jr.
Outside of the office, Williams Jr. spends time in his community. He’s been Assistant Freshman Baseball Coach at Iona Preparatory School since 2016, an instructor at TM Baseball & Softball Training Academy since 2015, and started a Young Professionals in Family Businesses Networking Group. He’s also had considerable involvement in many of the company’s charitable efforts over recent years, including Support Connection, March of Dimes, Friends of Scarsdale Library Spelling Bee, Elizabeth’s Hope, Her Haven, and Rye YMCA.
"I was so pleased when George joined A.G. Williams as fourth generation of the family business," said President and CEO, George Williams Sr. "The work he's done since then has made me proud, both as a business owner and a father. I have no doubt that he will continue to grow in this new role, and help our business grow as he does."
