July News at the Library!
Summer Reading is back and in full swing at MPL! We hope you can join us. The Library will be closed on Thursday, July 4th in honor of Independence Day.
Summer Reading continues throughout July until August 30! Win cool prizes just by reading or listening to books and magazines. Every book, audiobook, or magazine you read = one entry into our weekly prize drawing and one Grand prize drawing of an Apple iPad!
In July, you can learn how to take great photos with your smartphone with Photographer, Peter Glass. Create unique leaf-print notecards at our Nature Art program. Join us for a 3D Printing Demonstration, where we will discuss 3D printing and you can watch a 3D print made one layer at a time! Enjoy a swingin’ evening of live music with Bob Kolb and his Jazz Quartet, as they perform music celebrating the legacy of Frank Sinatra. Explore all the wonderful things Connecticut has to offer at a presentation with author and historian, Marty Podskoch, about his book, The Connecticut 169 Club: Your Passport and Guide to Exploring Connecticut. Online author talks in July will feature staff favorites, Kate DiCamillo, Max Brallier, Elizabeth Acevedo, and Dan Sanat. In honor of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, our movie matinees in July will be Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris and Chariots of Fire, which tells the true story of Olympians competing at the 1924 Paris Olympics to one of the most memorable film scores of all time.
Summer Reading 2024 for Children and Young Adults: READ, RENEW, REPEAT! will feature a wide variety of fun and engaging programs and events. For children there will be outdoor Storytime mini sessions, Yoga mini sessions, a summer StoryWalk at Eisenhower Park, as well as an evening Storytime and craft before you turn in for the night. Other July programs in Children’s include The Third Annual Chess Workshop Series, Summer Painting Event with the Giggling Pig, OzBot Robotics, a Pokemon Meet-up, Crafting Fairy Houses, Baking Strawberry Shortcake Cups from scratch, STEM Fundamentals with LEGO as well as an engaging music program with Al DeCant and a drama workshop with Ingrid Schaeffer and much more!
Danielle has some awesome stuff happening for Young Adults too including a MarioKart 8 Tournament, YA Game Night, Washi Tape Painting, Calligraphy Fun, Theatre Games Drama Workshop, A Slimy, Stick Icky Science Workshop, A Hands-on Animal Program, Book Buzzes for both Middle School and High School, and those in grades 6-12 can celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday at the First Day of Wizarding School! There will also be great sports-themed movies, a make your own Cake Trifle Cups program, and much more!
Reading programs for adults, children, and young adults may be done on our website using READsquared or in-person at the Library. A huge thanks to the Friends of the Milford Public Library for funding ALL our Summer Reading Programs!
