TEMPLE SHAARAY TEFILA BRINGS BROADWAY TO BEDFORD

 

Bedford Corners, NY, Temple Shaaray Tefila, a dynamic reform congregation in Bedford Corners, is opening its doors to the community for a special benefit performance of the Off-Broadway cabaret hit, Searching for Tevye, starring Katonah resident, Bruce Sabath.  Sabath starred in Sondheim’s Company (Tony Award, Best Revival), Cagney the Musical and the acclaimed Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish.

 

Searching for Tevye answers the question: How did a nerdy theater kid from Rochester ditch a booming Wall Street career to pursue his dream of becoming a Broadway actor? And what does all that have to do with a fictional dairyman named Tevye?  Bruce tells his unique story with the songs that propelled him along the way, spanning folk rock, American songbook, and musical theater classics.

 

This one-night benefit performance is on Thursday, March 3rd at 8pm and selling tickets at various levels, some of which include a pre-show reception with small bites by Matt Miller Events and a wine tasting by local wine specialist Bill “Tish” Tisherman, of WineForAll. A Katonah friend of Bruce’s since the 1990s, Tish promises wines in sync with the Tevye theme — and guaranteed to pair well with noshing and schmoozing.

 

Featuring a three-piece band and multimedia, Searching for Tevye will be staged in Temple Shaaray Tefila’s acoustically rich sanctuary. Originally a music room, the sanctuary was constructed on the principle of the violin, with a separate floor, inner walls and wooden ceiling, all of which resonate vibration without echoes. Inspiration for the music room came from San Pietro, built in the 16th century in Perugia, Italy.
