An Exploration of Meditation, presented by Nick Seaver at New Canaan Library

What is meditation? New Canaan Library is pleased to host a presentation by Nick Seaver, who is, among other things, a co-founder of the Community Mindfulness Project, here in New Canaan.  In this talk, Nick Seaver will cover the benefits and other aspects of practicing meditation and offer insights for how to begin a practice. Nick will speak at the Library on Sunday, October 2 at 2:30 p.m. in the Lamb Room. No registration is required for this event.

During his presentation Nick will expand upon the topics in his TEDx Talk, The Gift of Silence,  which examines his experience in an eighteen-month long silent retreat as part of the first major scientific study on meditation (The Shamatha Project).  How does silence and deliberate mental training change someone?  Is there anything that can be brought down from the mountains and into our busy, engaged lives, in a way that is practical?  This session will include short meditation exercises.

Nick Seaver oversees private investments at Ziff Capital Partners. Formerly, he was the CEO of Thanyapura, a diversified company whose primary business is a destination resort offering programs through its Olympic-class sports training center, meditation center, integrative health center, and affiliated International Baccalaureate school. With Erika Long, Will Heins and his wife Michelle, he is a co-founder of the Community Mindfulness Project, here in New Canaan.
