I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah and Rick, the Co-Founders and Teachers at Wiremill Academy through a mutual friend last week.

Sarah is one of Broadway's most esteemed leading ladies, having starred as Christine Daae, in over 1000 performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera. As well as the highly acclaimed portrayal of Magnolia in Showboat! Rick is a highly regarded actor, singer, dancer and teacher with over 30 years of experience starring on Broadway, national tours, the concert stage, as well as the dance world. He starred as The Phantom for over 1200 performances, receiving a nomination for the prestigious Joseph Jefferson Award.

The brilliant husband and wife team along with Co-Founder Mary Jo Duffy, teach young people about the joys of discovery, creative expression and confidence - which comes from practice! When I spoke with Rick I explained, I would love my son to attend his Academy but he feels he is too shy and self conscious. Rick said that's exactly why he got into drama, because it gave him the confidence to overcome his nerves and make up for any lack of self esteem.

With the Summer Vacation drawing closer Wiremill Academy is offering a choice of three different Summer Camps: Dance Camp (Mini-Dance Camp) Readers Theatre and Musical Theatre Camp.

Dance Camp

Your child will love the new and exciting dance camps, with diverse arts activities including ballet, modern, and jazz dance segments, yoga stretches, songs, creative theater exercises, poetry exploration, a special game, and even a "green" craft using recycled and found materials.

Readers Theatre

Is a staged reading of a classic or contemporary play. The play will be chosen, depending on the students in the workshop. Students will practice the skills required to develop a character, and learn how to look at a scene in the context of the entire play. Students will experience the freedom of being able to perform a role in a staged reading at the end of the week for an audience of family and friends without the pressure of having to memorize lines for the entire play.

Musical Theatre Camp

These are high energy, fun-filled musical workshops where young performers will discover the exciting world of musical theatre through age appropriate songs, creative movement, theatre games, storytelling and characterization. This camp will provide children with an opportunity to sing and act in big group numbers, partner with friends in scenes and songs, and solo opportunities for those who would like to try flying solo! Children will experience freedom of expression, while learning respect for each other and responsibility for the group. These sessions will culminate with a musical cabaret style performance on the last day of the workshop for family and friends.
