SilverSource Announces New Board Members and Jerome Berkman As Board Chair

SilverSource, Inc. announced today that Jerome Berkman has been named the new Chair of its Board of Governors.  His term was effective June 2017.  The Board also recently welcomed two new members, Maureen Cacace and Peter Gardner, MD.

“Now more than ever, our community needs the unbiased expertise and guidance from SilverSource,” said Berkman.  “I am honored to continue our tradition of caring for those in need, and excited to expand the impact of this trusted community resource.”

Berkman succeeds Karen M. Kelly, who was appointed SilverSource Board Chair in 2015, and oversaw the expansion of the organization’s services, including its growing medical transportation program and the creation of an aging resource center. Ms. Kelly will continue her service on the board as Past Chair and member of the Executive and Governance Committee.

Jerome Berkman joined the SilverSource Board in 2014.  He has served as the Chair of the SilverSource Golf Tournament, and on the organization’s Development Committee.  Jerry was a Partner at Day Pitney LLP, where he practiced in the area of commercial real estate for more than 40 years.  He represented the sole urban renewal redeveloper of Stamford, CT in the construction, financing and leasing of office buildings, a hotel and a major downtown shopping mall. He represented the landlord or tenant in hundreds of commercial leases and has represented the developer of thousands of units of multifamily rental housing in the Northeast.

Maureen Cacace is a part-time Title 1 tutor at Stamford’s Roxbury Elementary School, where she taught for 20 years.  Prior to teaching, Maureen was a para educator at Northeast Elementary School in the Chapter 1 Early Intervention Reading Program for first and second graders, and was also employed as a XEROX Learning Systems as an Editorial Assistant.  A Stamford resident, Maureen served on the board of Northeast PTO and on the Holy Spirit Parish Council. She has served as a judge for the Ferguson Library Literacy Competition and volunteered with Reading Is Fundamental and the Stamford Museum and Nature Center.

Dr. Peter Gardner is a retired gastroenterologist and long-time Stamford resident.  During his practice, he was affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Greenwich Hospital and Stamford Hospital, and was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia Medical Center.  He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and was in practice for more than 28 years. During that time he authored numerous medical articles, was affiliated with multiple medical organizations, and has been listed among Connecticut’s Top Doctors as well as Best Doctors in America.

“We’re thrilled to have Jerry Berkman leading our Board because he will build on our increasing momentum,” said Kathleen Bordelon, SilverSource Executive Director, “and our new Board members bring talent, expertise and energy.  We are fortunate to have them on our team as we continue our work helping Fairfield County’s older residents and their families navigate their later years,”
