
Students from New Canaan Country School’s Upper School division (grades 7-9) participated in the National World Language exams March 30-31.
On the National French exam, eighth-grader Daniel Marin of Easton achieved a first-place ranking in the state of Connecticut, while also earning a gold medal on the national level. Ninth-graders, Maria Flores of Stamford and Annie Nichols of New Canaan, also earned gold medals nationally. Students who achieved silver and bronze honors at the national level included: (silver) Courtney Edwards of Darien, Dominic Hartmann of Norwalk, Oliver Johnson of New Canaan, Sebastian Kelsey of Darien, Chandeny Rahman of Stamford, Dario Sanon of Stamford, Chris Santa of Norwalk, Matthew Schell of Stamford, Sasha Valdes of New Canaan, and Anna Zhuperina of Greenwich; (bronze) Lillian Back of Norwalk.
On the National Spanish exam, eighth-grader Lila Gizzie of New Canaan achieved an almost-perfect score of 99%. She and ninth-graders Katherine Teles of New Canaan and Conrado Calderini of Greenwich each earned gold medals, nationally. Additionally, the following students achieved silver and bronze honors at the national level: (silver) Ella Harvey of Darien, Ana Petricone of Rowayton, Isabella Sarracino of New Canaan, Caitlyn Edwards of New Canaan, Madeline Maliakal of Stamford and Will McKeown of Darien; (bronze) Madelynn Hasbrouck of Norwalk, Elizabeth Walsh of Wilton, Peyton Ambrose of Rowayton, Capone Andrade of Bridgeport, Freya Collins of Darien, Caroline Coniglio of New Canaan, Julia Coniglio of New Canaan, Jonathan Gavidia of Norwalk, and Ellie Levinson of Darien.
Students who earned distinguished recognition on their national Latin exam included: (Summa Cum Laude) Aoife Flannagan of Ridgefield and Ryan Pauta of Stamford; (Maxima Cum Laude) Consuelo Bowman of New Canaan, Dilara Khan of New Canaan; (Magna Cum Laude) Annie Harrigan of New Canaan, Kieran Mohindra-Green of New Canaan, Riley Newport of Norwalk, Ambika Nott of New Canaan, Chris Blair of New Canaan and Juliet Lannaman of Stamford.
“These outstanding and well-deserved honors are a testament to the consistent emphasis on two of our school’s core values – Courage and Curiosity: the courage to be a risk-taker and mistake-maker as a language-learner, and the curiosity to learn and grow in the discipline,” added World Language Program Coordinator and Lower School (Grades 1-4) Spanish Teacher Sean Robb.
