
Deputy Chief Mario A. Sinapi (NYFD-Retired), 98, of New Fairfield, husband of Vera (Moroz) Sinapi, died on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Danbury Hospital. Chief Sinapi was born in New York, NY, February 17, 1915, a son of Louis and Maria (Capotosto) Sinapi, he attended New York schools. After graduation from high school, he was employed as a factory worker in the leather goods industry of New York City. In 1939, Mario became a member of the New York Fire Department as a firefighter and served for thirty-five years, retiring with the rank of Deputy Chief in 1974.
An area resident for the past thirty-nine years coming from the Bronx, first moving to New Milford, he has been a New Fairfield resident for the past eight years. Chief Sinapi was a member of the Uniformed Firefighter's Association, International Fire Chief's Association and the New York Firefighter's Holy Name Association. He was a NY Yankee fan, enjoyed woodworking and photography. He was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Parish of New Fairfield. He will be sorely missed.
In addition to his wife of seventy-three years, Chief Sinapi is survived by a son, Richard Sinapi and his wife, Theresa of Fort Pierce, FL; a son in law, Joseph Fidaleo of New Fairfield; seven grandchildren, Patrice Andreozzi, Lisa Remley, Nancy Bock, Joseph Fidaleo, James Fidaleo, Nick Tanzi and Tony Sinapi; nineteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents. Chief Sinapi was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Fidaleo; a sister, Loretta Micheli and six brothers, Tom, Ray, Frank, Benny, Olindo and Eddie.
