Danbury Westerners Sign Pitcher Ryan Testani
The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Ryan Testani for the 2015 season. Testani, a native of Shelton Connecticut, has spent the past two seasons pitching for the Seton Hall Pirates. Coming in at 6’5” and 210 pounds, Testani will be an imposing force on the mound for the Westerners this season.
In his one prior season pitching for the Pirates, Testani proved his pitching prowess as he was selected a member of the NJCBA All-Rookie team. Testani demonstrated his electric stuff while coming out of the bullpen for a total of 15 relief appearances. In 23 innings of work, Testani went 3-1 with a 2.35 ERA. His control was also on point as he struck out 12 batters while walking only six. Overall batters did not fare well against the right-hander as he held opponents to a .238 batting average while producing a 1.09 WHIP.
This season, Testani has maintained his pinpoint control out of the bullpen. While striking out eight batters, he has only allowed four walks and five hits in 8.1 innings pitched. His peripherals remain as strong as last season as he has managed to sustain a 1.08 WHIP and a K/BB ratio of 2:1. Hitters continue to struggle to get hits off of Testani as the opposition has only managed a .179 average against him.
One of Testani’s best outings of 2014 came on May 9th against the Xavier Musketeers. In a big win for the Pirates, the right-hander threw a perfect inning on only 11 pitches. The three hitters were only able to muster one groundout and two fly outs.
Testani attended Shelton High School in Shelton, Connecticut. The right-hander was also a standout basketball player as he was named the team captain of both the Shelton basketball and baseball teams. He was named first team All-State in 2013 and second team All-State in 2012. In 2013 Testani was unhittable as he registered a 0.82 ERA while recording a 6-3 record.
Paul Schaffer, President of the Danbury Westerners, commented, “Ryan has all the tools to succeed in the NECBL this summer, as his ability to keep batters off base will certainly serve the Westerners well. I am always excited when we recruit local talent, and I look forward to meeting Ryan this summer and watching him pitch for the Westerners.”
