Temple Sholom in New Milford will honor their long-time administrative director, Ms. Tamara Potter, after their morning services on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. with a special luncheon and presentation of a Commemorative Journal.

Sandy Singco, honorary chair of the Temple’s Honoree Committee, wrote to members, “Tamara works hard to keep things running smoothly. Quietly she works with all the committees, Rabbi Rosenberg, and the public. She is the first voice a person hears when they contact the Temple, and her love comes through when people request information about the Temple and membership. Her positive attitude is contagious, and she is an integral part of our community.”

To thank “Tam” Potter, a Commemorative Journal of Honor is being assembled for members of the community to write “Well Wishes” in the form of words of congratulations, gratitude and appreciation. The journal will be presented to Ms. Potter on March 19, and space for messages, and/ advertisements, is currently being sold by the not-for-profit Temple Sholom.

Advertising spaces in the Commemorative Journal of Honor range from full size of 7 ½ x 4 ½ to half page of 3 ½ x 4 ½, one third page of 2 ½ x 4 ½ and one sixth page of 2 ½ x 2 ¼. Customization services are also offered to potentially combine several ad spaces or to help advertisers with ideas. Due date for all advertisements and Well Wishes is Friday, February 19, 2016.

Ms. Singco commented, “Tam’s biggest joy will be seeing people supporting a Temple activity, rather than her being celebrated. She does all she does as a part of who she is, quiet, dignified, and always organized. We can show how much we appreciate her by attending the March 19 event and celebrating with her.”

Temple Sholom, led by Rabbi Ari Rosenberg of New Milford, is a small congregation that offers ongoing innovative programs, primarily in education, with a unique, inter-generational approach. On Sundays, the Temple’s “Jewish Journeys” program attracts children of varying ages, their parents, and older adult members of the community. The Temple is also proud of their long-standing tradition of post Bar- and Bat-Mitzvah teens teaching in their after-school Hebrew program. For adults, the Temple offers numerous classes including Torah study and book groups toward the ambition to provide valued intellectual, spiritual, and social connections.

Currently Temple Sholom offers Torah Study on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. Beginning in February nine sessions will be offered through March on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. on “An Introduction to Islam for Jews” which will include multi-media presentations and discussions on contemporary issues. As part of their Scholars in Residence program, on February 5th, they will welcome Matan Koch, Esq. to speak about ways to create more public access for handicapped individuals in places such as synagogues, churches, etc. As part of the Scholars program, on April 29th Dr. Peter Cole will offer “Jewish Poetry Reading Through History.”

Recently the Temple shifted to an innovative “conscientious contribution” dues structure. With this new structure, members can now determine the contribution they feel comfortable giving to support the congregation. While many churches and synagogues are currently experiencing declines in membership, Temple Sholom has seen a spike in membership, up over 10% since the new dues structure has been offered.
