DOGS FOR ADOPTION AT THE NEWTOWN ANIMAL SHELTER

Winston is a 4-year-old Jack Russell-mix who shows signs of being abused. He can be hand-shy but pound staff are teaching him to trust again. Once he becomes attached to someone, he is a bundle of love and an absolute sweetheart. He loves to go for walks, and is quite the high-energy little fellow! Winston would like a quiet home where he can get out for walks and be the center of your attention. He's the perfect size for an older person looking for a low-key companion. His history of abuse and the fear that he carries make him not a good choice for a home with young children. Max is one handsome dude! He is a 2-3-year old Shar Pei. He came to the pound with an extremely irritating eye-condition. He had surgery to correct the problem, but his vision is still limited. For that reason, he is very wary around strangers. Max loves to walk and definitely has an extra pep in his step since his eyes are more comfortable. Like many in his breed, Max tends to be independent. In other words, he is never going to be an outgoing lab-type dog. Once he is comfortable with a person, he likes nothing more than to put his head in their lap and take a nap. He'll make a great companion for someone looking for a loyal, low-key friend.

If Max sounds like the dog for you, please call Newtown Animal Control at 203-426-6900 or Canine Advocates at 203-426-5327. Canine Advocates of Newtown, a 501(c)3 non profit, volunteer group, raises funds for spaying or neutering, rabies, and DHLPP shots for all of the Newtown Pound cats and dogs. CAN also provides a free training DVD and one free individual training lesson from Beyond Obedience Dog Training. If you cannot adopt but would like to help, donations can be sent to Canine Advocates, PO Box 236, Newtown, CT. Please visit our web site www.canineadvocates.org or call 203-426-5327 to volunteer.
