Candlewood Fencing Center in Danbury is Connecticut's most prestigious and state of the art Fencing Club. It is also this Nation's oldest non-metropolitan club and has been the model for many clubs across the country. Owner and Head Coach Tom Ciccarone Opened the club in 1987 and has been the head coach of Sacred Heart University and is an Assistant Coach at Vassar College. The club has produced 19 National Champions and a multitude of National Medalists and National Point Holders (Used for World Team Selection)
The customer base of the club is very wide with people ranging in age from 5-65. From Beginners to Olympic and World Team Hopefuls. Fencing is a lifetime sport the people can pick up as child and do their whole lives, or you can start as an adult. There are World Championships for Cadet (Under 17), Junior (Under 20), Senior (13 and Over), Veteran 50+, Veteran 60+, Veteran 70+.
Fencing is one of only a few sports that has been in every Modern Olympic Games, Since 1896. The Creator of the Olympics was a Fencer, and Also Created the Pentathlon which features Fencing as one of the more valuable disciplines. The Tip of the Fencing weapon is the second fastest moving object in sports only behind the bullet used in Shooting events.
Owner Tom Ciccarone has worked tirelessly to attract some of the country's top Young Coaches. Dennis Kolakowski comes to the club with a long resume boasting of National Medals including National Champions, and International Champions. Marty Williams Jr. is a 2016 Olympic Hopeful who is ranked in the top 20 of the Country currently. Matt Laudicina is the Sabre Coach of Sacred Heart University, and Jeremy Goun has trained with Olympic Coaches from several countries on how to be a coach.
