
John L. Keating
John L. Keating, 71,of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Danbury and Newtown, passed away at his Las Vegas home on Tuesday, June 28th, 2016.
Mr. Keating was born September 14th, 1944 to Edward and Anita (Cuff) Keating. He attended Danbury Schools, graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1962 and was a graduate of Danbury State Teachers College where he received his B.S. and M.S. in Education. He then received his Sixth Year Degree in Administration from the University of Bridgeport. John’s teaching career began at Hayestown Avenue School, later served as an administrator at both Broadview Middle School and Rogers Park Middle School. His career in CT culminated as principal of Woodbury Middle School, Woodbury, CT. Upon retirement, John moved to Las Vegas where he also served as an administrator in their public school system.
John loved sports. He coached basketball at Broadview Middle School, Danbury High School and Newtown High School. He had a passion for golf, horse racing, playing cards and loved the NY Yankees. John was recognized by the Danbury Old Timer’s Athletic Association for his involvement in sports in the greater Danbury area.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Brennan) Keating of Las Vegas, his children, Patricia (Marc) Shay, and Kasey (Brandt) Schneider both of Southbury, CT; six grandchildren, Monique, Riley, Hunter and Jack Shay and Claudia and Mollly Schneider; two sisters, Mary Keating Tahan and Kathleen (Ken) Kopec and three nieces, Margo Kopec-Escrig, Kerry Kopec Tarallo and Elizabeth Kopec.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Keating was predeceased by his brother in law, Joseph C. Tahan, Sr.
The family will receive friends at Jowdy - Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Ave., Danbury on Saturday, July 9th from 3pm-5pm with a memorial speaking program at 5pm.
