A significant coastal storm will impact the state with strong damaging winds, moderate coastal flooding, heavy rain and even a wintry mix in the higher elevations.

Strong gusty winds will ramp up this afternoon with peak wind gusts occurring during the first half of the night. Winds will be primarily out of the east at 20 to 35 mph. Peak wind gusts will be along the immediate shoreline with damaging gusts to 60 mph possible. Areas away from the immediate shoreline could see gusts to 50 mph.

Latest models are forecasting a wide area of 2” – 3” inches of rainfall across our area. This rainfall is forecast to be spread out over a 36 to 48-hour time period. Therefore, significant flooding is not expected. However, the rainfall will keep soils saturated.

Residents are asked to monitor forecasts and weather conditions, keep catch basins clear of debris and leaves to the extend this can be done safely and avoid driving through flooded roadways. As more information is available regarding the storm, updates will be provided.

Stay safe Newtown!
